Lake County is located in west central
Colorado in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Leadville is its largest city and county seat.
The county is located in the highest altitudes of the upper Arkansas River watershed,
and is bordered by the Continental Divide on to the west and north. The county
has a rich mining history and is a popular tourist attraction for skiers and snowboarders in the winter.
In the summer, many are attracted to Lake County's numerous opportunities for outdoor activities.
