Fremont County is located in south central Colorado.
It is a geologically diverse county with rugged mountains to the west and plains to the east. Canon City is the county seat and largest city in the county.
The county thrives on tourism: It is the home of the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park and whitewater rafting on the Arkansas river is a popular activity.
The county is also known for having many prisons (state and federal) in the area of Canon City and Florence.
The western half of Fremont County encompasses mountainous areas with
the Sangre de Cristo mountains bordering the county to the southwest.
